One of the nicest things about Ukraine is that every time I take a look at something there, I can start to feel blessed about being an Australian who also spends a fair bit of time in other Western nations. Because even though I complain about Australia's useless Parliament and the ridiculous composition of the US Congress, all I have to do is just take a look at what happens in the Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) and suddenly, I realize that things may not be so bad....
This type of behavior is common, but what can you expect from individuals who are - literally - above the laws of the land (not that the laws stop anyone with any wealth from doing what they wish anyway)? This is the best argument I have seen yet for some model of direct democracy. Shrills who decry the rule of the mob and the need to elect the best, most capable, the smartest of us to take care of our interest as per representative democracy...take a good look at the above.
I only hope that one day, someone from Svoboda will smuggle some decent hardware in...and improve the nations prospects immeasurably.
